You have everything ready to go…the recipes, the planning paper, the pens. You have even asked your family for meal input. There’s only one problem..when will you find the time to plan all of this? In a panic, you start to think about putting it off until tomorrow. If this sounds like you, then these 4 reasons to make time to plan your meals may put an end to the procrastination.
I’ve heard it over and over again throughout the years…“Libby, where am I going to find time to meal plan?” Or, “meal planning is great for those who can find time to do it, but I don’t have the time nor can I find it.” And my all-time favorite, “I’m wayyyy to busy to even think about planning out my meals.”
You’re busy. You have kids and a spouse. You are a care taker of others. You have a job. I get it.
I’ve been there and am still there. Through navigating those first few years of marriage when money was tight and then going through the busy stages of motherhood, meal planning has been a *life saver.*
What I realized by actually sitting down and taking the time to meal plan was that I never had to worry about dinner time or what I would cook, no matter how busy I seemed to be. To me, that was a HUGE stress relief.
If you’re serious about your meal planning, but think you are to busy to start, let me share a few reasons why you should stop procrastinating:
4 Reasons to Make Time to Plan Your Meals
- It Saves You Time-I know. I know. I can hear it now..”first you’re telling me to make time for it and now you are telling me that it saves time?” Let me explain…how many times have you gone around in circles trying to figure out what to have for dinner? Dilemmas like this may take you 30 minutes to figure out, sometimes an hour, depending on the circumstances. When you make time to plan your meals, you already know what you’re going to have for dinner, thus cutting out an hour of “where are we going to eat” and “what are we going to cook.”
- You Can Plan Properly and Accordingly-If you take the time to plan out your meals, you can schedule them according to your calendar. This comes in handy during those times when you have to run your children to soccer practice or you have a late doctor’s appointment. If you know ahead of time when these events will take place, you can plan your meals accordingly.
- It Can Save You Money-I cannot tell you how many times meal planning has saved us money over the years. Once I made the time to actually sit down and plan things out, I was shocked at how it quickly lowered our food bill. I planned our meals around what we already had in our pantry, thus saving us at least 300 dollars a month. Not only this, we rarely spent money on restaurants and take-out (unless we planned for it), which also allowed us to save. We would have never been able to save unless I took the time to plan things out.
- You Will Be Healthier-Taking the time to meal plan has helped us live a healthier lifestyle. Like I mentioned above, we no longer felt the need to go out to eat. Restaurant food not only drains your bank account, but it also can add inches to your waistline if you aren’t careful. It also allowed us to eat healthier meals during the week by given us the freedom to choose what we wanted to make. We felt happier, more energetic, and ready to take on the world.
I can think of at least 3 more reasons why you should carve out time to plan your meals. Hopefully I have convinced you to get off the procrastination train and jump on the meal planning wagon.
Getting started with meal planning and maintaining it isn’t easy. However, once you realize the many benefits it has to offer, you will never want to stop.
